Short or Long Term Disability insurance helps you for a certain period of time: Short-Term Disability (STD) will pay you a portion of your income for 26 weeks after you run out of sick leave whereas Long-Term Disability (LTD) will pay you a portion of your income after you run out of both sick leave and STD.
